-£0.8 million, 6000sqm-
Stage: Completed April 2014
Client. Blaenau-Gwent Regeneration Division
Location. ‘The Works’ as part of the regeneration project of the former steelworks site in Ebbw Vale, Wales.
The proposed development will form the basis of The Works public realm. This refers to the space between buildings where the public have free access. High quality design for all elements of the public realm can achieve an environment that people will enjoy spending time in, rather than simply using streets to get from one location to another. Additionally, careful attention to design enhances the sense of place, making it a comfortable environment which encourages social activity.
The seating areas and associated canopies will provide a strategic recreational amenity for users of the surrounding buildings, as well as a pleasant waiting environment for Public Transport. A galvanised steel structure would be used with grey Trespa panels, yellow lining and untreated douglas fir timber slats.
The amount of development planned is as follows:
Paving………………….3051m2
Grass……………………2839m2
Landscaped Areas….906m2
