Refurbishment of a 50 year old school as part of the 21st Century schools programme in
Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.
The predominant cladding colour will! be dark grey. This has several advantages. In a drab
overcast northern climate, pale colours can look too! insipid. Too large an area of bright
colours is too childish. We have proposed something akin to a ‘smart business suit’ for the
building, which is livened up with splashes of colour at intervals along the façade.
Particular attention has been paid to the entrance canopies. These are important visual
markers to the building entrances, and have been designed as modern, expressive,
articulated structures to create an impression of a positive dynamic environment upon
entry.
